What did Bangkok used to be called?

Thonburi

Thonburi was the first capital of Siam, which was the former name of Thailand. King Taksin, who ruled from 1768 until 1782, established the capital in Thonburi, located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River.

Krung Thep

In 1782, King Rama I moved the capital across the river to the east bank and founded the new capital, which he called “Krung Thep Maha Nakhon”.
